about

'If Miniature World Is Our Safe Space, Then Pass Me The Shrink Ray’ is the new album from the Russian Linesman. The project features a number of collaborators, most significantly Mercury Music Prize nominated Maps (Mute Records), Lederrick, Valeska Rautenberg, Marta Hagen, Lív Næs, Scarlet Season and Cesca.

The album was inspired by a rummage through old boxes of lyrics and diaries during lockdown, this musical journey explores the emotional complexities of navigating modern life while yearning for the simplicity of the past. It delves into the weight of expectations and obligations, transporting listeners to moments of wonder and enchantment and rekindling a sense of curiosity long forgotten.

Psychology-wise, the whole concept came from internal coping strategies during lockdown, nostalgia and warm past memories juxtaposed with the affliction of growing older and the world forcing change upon you. It fits in with the work of Johannes Hofer and Krystine Batcho on the psychological purpose of nostalgia. Does nostalgia strengthen our sense of self, or is it something that holds us back?
